Brand-New Honda Fit Debuts in Detroit

Honda greatly excited those of us at DCH Gardena Honda when it unveiled its brand-new, next-gen Honda Fit, yesterday.

Using the North American International Auto Show in Detroit for its venue, Honda introduced the 2015 Fit which it has high hopes for, in terms of sales, in the future.

"The Honda Fit is a small car with big aspirations. Faster, more fuel-efficient and more fun, it's a subcompact with larger-than-life capabilities,"1 says John Mendel, sales chief for American Honda.

Honda is planning to produce its 2015 Fit in its new Celaya, Mexico facility. Production is slated to begin next month with the Fit available for sale as of spring. Manufacturing the vehicles in North American instead of Japan, from which they were previously imported, will have the potential to rid extra import charges for the U.S.

Additionally, production volume will be able to increase due to the fact that the allotment of 50,000 units from Japan will not be an issue anymore.

"For first time since launching the Fit we will have the capacity we want," Mendel explains. "We don't have to compete with the rest of the world for that capacity."2

The new Honda Fit features a 1.5-liter direct-injection engine which makes up to 130 horsepower and 114 lb.-ft. of torque.
